Privacy Policy

To comply with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), the DPA (Data Protection Act) and the PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) here's my privacy policy. It has to be “concise, transparent, intelligible and easily accessible” so I'm getting my author on and writing this myself...

Who am I?

I'm Claire Wade,  a writer who wants to tell stories and get them to lovely readers. I don't want to sell your data, your identity or anything else, just books. Lots of books...

I collect and store only the most basic info I need to provide you with emails, updates and stories - your name and your email address, that’s it. I'm (Claire Wade) the data controller for clairewade.com and I will use the information you provide (name and email address) for consent to contact you.
i.e. The lawful bases for processing your data as set out in Article 6 of the GDPR -  (a) Consent: the individual has given clear consent for you to process their personal data for a specific purpose.

I occasionally use the information you provide for Facebook adverts.

I'll keep your data on my mailing list for as long as you don’t unsubscribe, but if I do check my stats and see that you haven’t opened any of my emails for the past 18 months, then I’ll declutter both your inbox and my list, and I will delete you from my mailing list. You can always sign back up again.

Mmm Cookies... (who else read that in the Cookie Monster's voice?!)

I do have cookies on my site, not the gorgeous, warm from the oven, chocolate-chip variety, the digital kind, though I've no real clue what goes into making those - I do know how to make chocolate-chip ones and they're really good - if only you could get one of those each time you visited. If you don't want my digital cookies, you can block them through your internet browser settings.

The not-so secret tracking stuff...

I use Google Analytics and the Facebook Pixel to get an idea of where in the world you lovely readers are coming from and how you're finding me and what you're looking at once you're on my site. There's a lot of data that Google/Facebook etc provide that I have no idea what it does and I'm generally too busy writing to check the stats. It doesn't collect anything deeply personal or revealing, just your IP address and some other techy stuff. It's possible to block Google Analytics and the Facebook Pixel but that's not my area of expertise so go check out Google if that's something you want to do.

I also use Add This to track my content and shares, but this doesn't track you. It just gives me an idea of what people are enjoying on my site.

Data Storage

I use Mailchimp to send out my update emails, free stories and other marketing bits. If you sign up (have signed up) for anything then you put your name and email address into the little box and that's literally all the information I get. Mailchimp stores it and they're GDPR compliant. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe button at the bottom of every email.

Want to be deleted?

Not in a sinister way, in a remove all your details way? Email me contact@clairewade.com I can unsubscribe you from Mailchimp - then just don't visit the website again and I won't have any more information on you.

Emails

I should be better at sending emails, I'd like to send them about once a month, but I keep getting distracted by my stories. Seeing is Believing is a weekly email as part of my serial story. You can also get my blog updates via email.

Mailchimp automatically adds tracking things to links so if you click on a link it will show up in the stats... which I hardly ever remember to look at.

Not enjoying my communications? That's okay, just unsubscribe.

Social Media

I'm on it, I generally love it, if we connect and get chatting I might follow you back. If you'd rather I didn't, let me know and I will step away, it's all good.

Thank you to Writers’ HQ, for their excellent Privacy Policy that inspire me to write my own. They also do the most amazing writing courses and helped me get where I am today, so if you're a writer too, go check them out!

PS I found this on the web and it looked a bit more legalease, so I thought I'd include it just in case.
