New Adult Fiction - a new discovery

18/5/2017

Have you heard of New Adult Fiction? I hadn't until today.

It's a developing fiction genre with mainly female protagonists between 18–30 who are finding their way in the world.

It's somewhere between young adult and women's fiction. The next stage on for readers who loved The Hunger Games, Twilight and Harry Potter but who are looking for something with older characters they can relate to - basically me as a reader!

I came across the term for the first time in a blog. It describes the books I write in a much better way than anything I've found so far. It's exciting to see that there's an emerging market and somewhere I feel my stories belong.

I'm now on the hunt to find some new adult authors to read. Do you have any suggestions?

Claire Wade is the winner of the Good Housekeeping Novel Competition and author of The Choice. She was bed bound for six years with severe ME, trapped in a body that wouldn't do what she wanted. She now writes about women who want to break free from the constraints of their lives, a subject she's deeply familiar with.
